Douglas County Libraries improves WiFi service

Douglas County Libraries has dramatically improved coverage on its public wireless networks at all of its locations.

The improvement effort, done without interruption of service to patrons, improved signal strength from between 12% and 58% to consistently between 68% and 100% at Philip S. Miller Library in Castle Rock, with no dropped signals in the month of March, 2010.

In that month, Douglas County Libraries' wireless network served 1,519 distinct wireless computers, with none dropped off the network. Nearly 100 patrons used the network on an average day, with most accessing the network at the Highlands Ranch and Philip S. Miller Libraries.

"This goes a long way toward proving the value of libraries to the public," said Monique Sendze, DCL's associate director of information technology. "We know we're serving hundreds to thousands of people every month with our free wireless service, in addition to the many other things they come to do at our libraries."
